In order to increase parental participation and to keep the school functioning, my school (Orange Coast Japanese School) has a Parent Association. It consists of one of the three pillars of the school, PA, Board and Teachers. Unlike a traditional governance structure of administration, these three groups have equal voice and share the equal responsibility and decision making. OCG is run and operated by an active Parents Association (PA). The PA organizes various events and engages in fundraising activities, including participating in the annual Orange International Street Fair. The money that we earn is used to pay for the school’s monthly rent and other expenses.

I think that a Parent Association is a wonderful idea. It gives parents a voice and a sense of power and agency.
I think it would be wonderful if the school also invited different parents to come in as speakers (but maybe in classes other than those that their children are in ...).
